Finally a personal update from me! Two weeks ago, I began with my new study! Currently, I study Communication and Information Studies at the VU. A study which totally suits me and where I can grow a lot with.

What does Communication and Information Studies mean?

Now, of course, the question is what exactly my study entails. Well, you can actually go a lot of different directions with my study. From English teacher to journalist. To summarize briefly, I really want to do the direction “journalism”.  After half a year I have to choose a direction and I already know for sure that I want the direction of journalism. I also want to see if I can do extra courses in another study. For example, different cultures in other countries are very interesting, so I really want to do another subject what is all about cultures.

How did I start?

Of course, it takes a lot of getting used to, but I think my study is really fun. In August I had my introduction days and there I met some really nice and sweet people. Starting a study with new, fun people is always very nice! Of course, I immediately have a lot of things that I have to do for my studies. For example, I have to read chapters for each lecture and I then immediately summarize that. I also need to make a number of assignments for the seminar.

My subjects

Currently, I have two different subjects and I am done with those two subjects in eight weeks (luckily). I have a subject called Introduction to Linguistics and I just don’t get that subject. Soon, I will need to study a chapter called “pc language” and I hope that suits me more. So far, the subject is just about how words exist and what these words exist of.

I also have the course Introduction to Communication Studies and I find this subject very interesting. It is about the media and the subject also contains a lot of philosophy. For example, we had to read a few chapters about science philosophy. Luckily, I passed this subject last Summer already. The chapters about the media and the influence of the media are also very interesting.

International students

My study is totally in English and I really need to adapt to that. It is very nice tho! They are a lot of international students. From someone who is from Indonesia to someone who is from America. Always nice to discover so many new people and cultures. With the study we do almost everything together, only the seminars are in Dutch this period. This will change in the next period, so next period I will get in touch with the international students more.
